Active Shooter -- Run, Hide, Fight -- March 27

Posted on 03/11/2019

The West Hills Neighborhood Council has arranged for an important interactive town hall, “Surviving an Active Shooter Event,” at El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.  Complimentary food and refreshments will be available before and after the town hall meeting, while supplies last.
In light of such events that have taken place in Las Vegas, Parkland, Aurora, Pittsburgh, San Bernardino and at the Borderline Grill in Thousand Oaks, it has become evident to the WHNC that everyone must know how to increase their odds of survival should they find themselves in an active shooter situation. These incidents are now occurring on an almost weekly basis.
Our town hall forum, with the theme “RUN/HIDE/FIGHT,” was created by the Los Angeles Police Department with assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  It will be presented by one of the best; Seargent Cathy Riggs of the LAPD Topanga Station. Sgt. Riggs is responsible for providing and facilitating local and state-mandated training for approximately 230 sworn officers and 20 civilian police employees in use-of-force, pursuit, and administrative investigation.  She is a Terrorism Liaison Officer and certified as a Department and Police Officer Standards and Training instructor in several subjects. Sgt. Riggs is an expert in active shooter prevention and response, and is currently working on her masters degree in forensic psychology, specializing in threat and risk assessment. She is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the American Psychological Association.  In this town hall, she will prepare you to act rationally in an active shooter event so you will know what to do without panicing.

This event is supported by the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council, the Canoga Park Neighborhood Council and the Woodland Hills/Warner Center Chamber of Commerce.
