At our July 10, 2025 Board meeting, the following Executive Officers were elected: Charlene Rothstein, President; Aida Abkarians, Vice President; Brad Vanderhoof, Secretary; Carolyn Greenwood, Treasurer; Saif Mogri, Controller. They all share effective leadership skills that inspire others and a long-time commitment to the West Hills community.
The WHNC Beautification Committee with help from the UCLA West Valley Medical Center and other community volunteers had a very successful cleanup on Medical Center Drive-more than 75 bags were filled with trimmings and debris! Chief Operating Officer, Dave Morgan, shared with us: "We value our partnership with the West Hills Neighborhood Council and were proud to join in the cleanup of Medical Center Drive, working together to keep our community clean and welcoming."

*L.A. City Charter Reform-The Charter governs the structure and operation of City government. The L.A. City Charter Reform Commission was established by Mayor Bass and the L.A. City Council in August 2024 and the Commisssion is now reviewing it to make recommendations and revisions to be approved by the City Council and the Mayor. The public has the opportunity to give opinions throughout the process. The revised Charter will be on the General Election November 2026 ballot. July 30, 2025 Meeting Agenda and Materials
*SB 79-URGENT-Deadlines are approaching! Bill passed the CA Senate and referred to Assembly Appropriations Committee. If SB79 passes it will allow apartments up to seven (7) stories tall within a half-mile radius of any rail station or major bus stop completely bypassing local zoning laws, that includes single-family housing, with no community input or environmental review.

*Woodlake Apts (Circle S Ranch Property)-Unfortunately we are unable to relay updates because City Planning has not posted, responded to emails or made available to the community documents relevant to this project. Neither has the project developer responded to WHNC requests for 3-D renderings and a site visit for further discussions after their presentation at the March 11, 2025 Zoning & Planning Committee Meeting.
February 27, 2025 Hearing-Special thank you to Councilmember John Lee for his letter against the project. The Commission voted to deny the appeal and issued a Letter of Determination, however, there are still more permit application submissions to departments for approval.
*Chaminade Expansion -At their July 30, 2025 meeting, The City Council adopted Agenda Item #22, subject to reconsideration pursuant to Council Rule 51. After the waiting period and barring any unforseen issues, Chaminade would be able to begin expansion plans. Council File #25-0574
During the July 10 Board meeting Glenn Jennings and Brad Vanderhoof were presented Certificates of Appreciation for their many years of dedicated support planning, transporting, setting up WHNC information and attending community events.
